[RSS] things are looking up for me

look who’s back.

random self shot from 1st july 2015.

the good news is, i’m definitely healing, and i’m still healing.

the bad news is, i will still have to go through a few cycles before my skin becomes more stable. natural healing is a series of ups and downs, so i have to mentally prepare myself for that.

based on my recent observations, my “flares” are no longer as serious as those in march. i don’t ooze anymore, and my sleep is a lot better than before too, even though i still wake at least once a night.

i get a few days of calmer skin after a few days of irritated skin. at least there’s something i can look forward to during the tougher times. my skin still gets rashy, but the areas are much smaller now, and they improve within days.

my doctor and i are extremely happy at the results, it’s only been a little more than 3 months since i started TCM. once we figured out the correct treatment for my body, things started improving more rapidly.

i know for sure that the TCM is lending a hand in my recovery from eczema this time because the rashes on my sole, which i’ve had for 2+ years (and did not clear away on its own) is finally showing signs of leaving.

my energy is still quite low, and i still have some aches around my body which i foresee them disappearing once my health is back on track.

after reading much about TCM, i realize eczema is merely a state of ill-health, hence the only way to prevent it from coming back is to be healthy. there’re so many ways things can go wrong, but there’s only one state that is right, and that is good health. on my own, i’ve been doing and eating a lot of healthy stuff too, so they probably contributed a little to my recovery as well.

since the body is so intricate, all factors come into play. it’s all part of a complicated cycle. my current understanding is this: if you do want to kick start your health, start from nutrition. it’s a little like war, if you do not have enough food to feed your soldiers, you’re bound for failure. good nutrition also means you must make sure your body is digesting and absorbing the nutrients well, otherwise all is wasted. so it all boils down to gut health.

for those of you who’re trying to heal eczema (post TSW or not), there’s really no harm in trying to improve gut health because it is the foundation for health. without it, you can’t go far.

i’m still basking in gratitude because i managed to make it in time for my best friend’s wedding. she was so happy i can be there too!

what’s most amazing is, just a week ago my skin was still pretty shitty, i could never have survived being outside because my body was dry everywhere. then this happened ๐Ÿ™‚ after those skin shed, things felt a lot better very quickly.

thank god for everything!

stay strong everybody!!! ๐Ÿ˜€ there’s always hope.

  1. Oh Juliana, you don’t know how happy I am to see this wonderful post! Such improvement! It’s great news and I am happy for you and for those like myself who are following your posts for hope.

I’m right at the start of my 17th month of TSW, and there were (still are) times when I feel like I’m going to lose it.
Sick of not being able to look myself straight into the mirror, sick of not recognizing myself in the reflection, sick of not being able to shower comfortably, sick of not being able to put on makeup, feel good, feel like myself, go out with confidence, do things that are “a normal” part of life for other people etc etc etc… As you know, the list goes on.

But every time I start feeling the defeat, I would read through your blog and see your photos of your before after, again and again until I felt so much stronger. This blog gives me so much courage. I will forever be greatful for your selflessness and strength in sharing with us your painful and traumatic journey beyond imagination.

I am still dealing with rashly red uneven patches of skin (I only have it on my face/neck) and a whole lot of peeling. Strangely, the center of my face – areas around my nose have started to look normal (pale, soft with pores and everything) lately..!! Could this be a sign of my entering a new stage?! I don’t know, but I am hopeful. After seeing your post today, Even more.

Bless you, and wishing us more healing come our way!

    • i totally feel you ๐Ÿ˜ฆ but i just want to remind you that this phase of your life will be over one day, and you’ll be able to enjoy all those simple pleasures once again.

thank you for letting me know how i’m able to help you, it always lift me up and give me more reasons to stay positive even when i’m in deep shit ๐Ÿ™‚

if things started to look better relatively, then you can be sure it’s improving! stay hopeful! through all these ups and downs, we’ll heal. as weird as it is, natural healing is a series of ups and downs.

      stay strong!!!

  2. Hi, what is the name/place of the tcm doctor you see?
Is it expensive? I would like to see a doc that can help, i have been to loads of dermatologists but they don’t help at all.
    Thank you.

    • hi hello, i’m seeing dr mok at the woodlands chung hwa clinic. it’s not expensive, but he’s only there every wednesday 7-9pm. he’s not a skin specialist, in fact. but he’s willing to try to help!

      • Wow, what a coincidence, my surname is mok as well lol! I’ll definitely be sure to check him out, woodlands is very near to me! Thanks, cheers to your journey ahead.

  3. Juliana! Have you ever been on Donia’s site (http://www.eczema-natural-healing.com)? I’ve been following her protocol for 4 months now, and I have to say, I am a total believer of her philosophy: that food is your main medicine. While I commend the TSW community here, I have to say I don’t agree with their common opinion that diet doesn’t matter. It’s probably one of the only things that’ll help.

Obviously, I’m still not completely healed yet (5 years of topical steroid usage), but I noticed I’m in way better state than most of the fellow TSW sufferers. I can actually leave the house now and no one could tell other than the fact I am moderately covered up. Many of my other health problems, other than the most obvious one (skin), went away once I started eating a STRICT alkaline diet with lots of good fats. I really do suggest you try it, since you seem very dedicated to health as well!

I’m blabbing, so- Juliana, you really look great. Compared to the flares you had years ago (or even a year), your skin still looks better than some people who aren’t flaring. I really enjoy your blog and positivity too, so thank you!

    • hey jackie! thanks for the link! i have been at her website years ago when researching for eczema!!! hahah so weird to be back on her website again! i’m really happy the alkaline diet worked for you! food indeed is our medicine, i have no doubt in that. i believe it’s more important to eat right to prevent illnesses than to seek medication to cure sickness.

it looks like the alkaline diet is doing you lots of good, if you’re experiencing other benefits, you’re on the right track. i’ve come to believe that eczema occurs when we’re unhealthy. as for TSW, eating right may be able to bring down the level of inflammation!

i may try the alkaline diet again soon! it’s too hard to maintain it when my family isn’t on the same bandwagon. in fact, the very idea of a healthy diet has always been more veggies and less meat, which in a way is very similar to alkalizing diet.

keep alkalizing and stay healthy!!! good luck! ๐Ÿ™‚
